Covering 25 diverse women from early world leaders to modern day heroes, What Would She Do? is an inspiring and empowering illustrated guide for today’s budding young feminists. From historic world leaders to brilliant scientists, artists, and modern-day pioneers, What Would She Do? shares twenty-five incredible women’s stories that educate and empower. Learn about the remarkable achievements and attitudes of feminist trailblazers such as Cleopatra, Amelia Earhart, Malala Yousafzai, Michelle Obama, and other brave women who overcame huge obstacles to accomplish great things. Featuring stunning illustrations from diverse artists, this beautiful book will inspire young readers and prepare them to face any challenge by simply asking, “What would she do?”
I think I read it in like 45min. Positives: gorgeous drawings of all of these women that helped shape history. Short descriptions of their lives and a motivational quote for the reader. The book not only includes many women of colour, it includes women from all over the world. I appreciated this cultural context, since I think it’s important for kids to understand that U.S./Western history is not the only history, and that Westerners aren’t the only people on the planet who’ve done extraordinary things.
I found some of my favourites in here like Michelle Obama and Frieda Khalo.

Negatives: I think they ran out of ideas towards the end as they started including footballers and mountaineers. I absolutely laughed at the ways that the authors tried to stay relevant and ask questions that the readers (possibly year 6 – year 9) would find good. Like if you’re being excluded from a WhatsApp group at school or you’re being bullied, what would [insert woman name] do? Talk to a teacher, ask to be included, don’t give up even if you’re clearly not wanted.
That’s terrible advice. People shouldn’t be forced to include other people in groups because of “Diversity and inclusion” practices. You shouldn’t talk to your friends individually and ask to rejoin a group they’ve made without you. That’s pathetic. Move on. Find your own tribe. People change and if you’re no longer wanted it’s up to you to find a place where you will fit instead of making others allow you tag along unwanted.
The best way to deal with social exclusion is to strengthen other relationships.
