Some books are clear streams of narrative that carry us easily along. Others are springs that inspire or refresh us; others still are lakes of calm and seductive capacities, or oceans that lure us to imaginative depths. But some books are composed with such exotic, even esoteric eloquence that they strike our readerly senses with the beauty, violence, and controlled intensity of a waterfall. We admire such writing before we understand it, and treasure it even when its language seems to keep its secrets.
I love lists and I always love a good book recommendation. While some of the books listed were classics, some were quite old or talked about things that didn’t interest me. But might work for others.
I loved the reviews for each section and while some of the text (like the one quoted above) would have worked for many-a-book-review, to use distinct ones for 1000 reviews is quite a feat.

The short synopsis under each title was sometimes enough to make me want to read the book or avoid it completely.
