Master Sergeant Reed Beckham has led his Delta Force Team, codenamed Ghost, through every kind of hell imaginable and never lost a man. When a top secret Medical Corps research facility goes dark, Team Ghost is called in to face their deadliest enemy yet – a variant strain of Ebola that turns men into monsters.
After barely escaping with his life, Beckham returns to Fort Bragg in the midst of a new type of war. As cities fall, Team Ghost is ordered to keep CDC virologist Dr. Kate Lovato alive long enough to find a cure. What she uncovers will change everything.
Total extinction is just on the horizon, but will the cure be worse than the virus?

Fast-paced military action meets cool, cutting-edge science. Extinction is no longer a Darwinian battle of the fittest. It’s a race for survival.

I thoroughly recommend this book to all other fans of apocalyptic fiction (grown women or otherwise!). And, if you have read none of Mr Smith’s other books, comfort yourself by knowing that, while you wait for the final instalment in this cycle you can enjoy the Orbs series….whereas, I just have to wait!
The characters in this novel are well rounded, and entirely believable. I found myself really wanting to know what would happen to them, even the supernumerary characters such as Brett or Chad. The books moves at a swift pace, but not so swift that it is impossible to keep up. However, there is a tension to the book that builds until the end which comes far too soon!
Delta Force MS Reed Beckham is sent on a mission that makes him very uneasy and the whole world spirals out of control from there.
We get the back story of the manmade strain as well as the misguided reason for its resurgence. We also get the POV of the scientists as they try to find a cure, whilst the soldiers try to keep them alive.
Good characters, a strong storyline and very descriptive, so we can picture just what the infected have become.
