I have been waiting patiently last night to see the Golden Globes and I’ve cast my ballot after a lot of consideration. I really loved “Joker” and the descent into madness it talks about. The thing is I really loved Almodovar’s feature “Pain and Glory” and I sat breathless at the 2h showing of “Parasite” which I thought was really well made and directed.I loved “Marriage Story” and I thought Scarlet Johansson and Adam Driver gave some of their best performances in it.
I got a few a lot of movies wrong:
- Best Motion Picture – Drama: 1917
- Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama: Renée Zellweger (Really? Really? She was atrocious in the Judy Garland role!)
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama: Joaquin Phoenix (Well done!! – he was my second choice after Antonio Banderas)
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: Awkwafina
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: Taron Egerton (win!)
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture: Laura Dern (Marriage Story. I don’t even remember her from the movie!)
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture: Brad Pitt (win!)
- Best Director – Motion Picture: Sam Mendes (1917) (hmm..)
- Best Screenplay – Motion Picture : Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood)
- Best Motion Picture – Animated : Missing Link – are you serious? That movie was like 5th in my rankings. Frozen 2 was way better than this.. How to train your Dragon made me freaking cry! The Lion King made me cry! OK, I do cry a lot but “Missing Link” elicited no emotional response from me.
- Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language: Parasite, South Korea, Bong Joon Ho (I admit, I really liked it. It was my second choice after Pain and Glory)
- Best Original Score – Motion Picture: Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker) – WIN!
- Best Original Song – Motion Picture: I’m Gonna Love Me Again, Rocketman
- Best Television Series – Drama: Succession
- Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy: Fleabag (WIN) – she also won best actress
All in all, really happy for Brad Pitt and Fleabag! And that “The Irishman” walked home with nothing.
